Pirita, Bodega Almaroja 2017
An highly characterful field-blend of native varieties (predominantly Malvasia) made by English wine-trade expat Charlotte Allen at her estate in the village of Fermoselle in the Arribes del Duero National Park. Farming of the old vines is organic, and sometimes according to biodynamic principles, and winemaking is very much with a 'natural' approach, with neither fining nor filtration and minimal use of sulphur. This has real freshness and complexity, softly scented with fine, expressive stone-fruit and almond notes and a streak of minerality.
