Brunello di Montalcino, Fossacolle 2018
This estate of just four hectares (2.5ha used for Brunello) is based in Tavernelle and owned by Sergio Marchetti whose family has occupied it since the early 18th Century. Winemaking is now the responsibility of his son-in-law Adriano Bambagioni (aided by his son Stefano) who trained for 10 years with Giacomo Tachis, the renowned oenologist and father of the Super Tuscan movement. Not surprisingly, this is a particularly elegant, supple and approachable style of Brunello, with bright berry fruit and soft spice, finishing with silky tannins. Ageing was over several years in a combination of large oak casks, one year old barriques and cement tanks.
