Gusbourne Estate 'Guinevere' Chardonnay 2021

Until quite recently it would have seemed inconceivable that a vineyard in Kent, a (hefty) stone's throw from the M20 and Eurostar railway line and just six miles from the Channel, would end up producing a Chardonnay to rival those of the variety's spiritual home in Burgundy. Gusbourne however, in my opinion, have achieved precisely that and this is an exceptional wine, complex and refined, with pure citrus freshness hand in hand with delicate toasty notes from fermentation and ageing in French oak (France, alas, still makes the best oak barrels).
